Chocolate Modak is a delightful twist on the traditional modak and is perfect for celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi. For the coconut mixture, in a hot pan, pour milk and add some sugar. Reduce the milk to half. Now, add the desiccated coconut and rose water, then cook it on medium heat till it dries up. The consistency should be like mashed potatoes. Turn off the heat and cool it down completely. Set up a double boiler, and melt the butter using it. Grind almonds, pistachios, cashew nuts and cardamom coarsely and sprinkle it on the coconut mixture. Mix it well. |

Grease the modak mould with some oil. Apply a minimal amount of oil using a brush. Fill the modak mould with coconut mixture and push the mixture in with your thumb to make a cavity. Pour the melted chocolate into the cavity. Don’t fill it completely. Cover the base with some mixture. Repeat the process with the remaining mixture and chocolate filling. Demould it and carefully remove the modaks. Garnish them with a spoon of melted chocolate and sprinkle chopped nuts. Chocolate modak is ready to be served. Happy Ganesh Chaturthi! |
