Directions

Wash and soak all the dals for 30mins. Discard the water and add the dal in a vessel with fresh water. Add salt, turmeric, chill powder, garlic, ginger, green chilli, onions and ghee. Cover and cook till the dal is tender. Keep aside. |

In a fresh pan heat ghee and add cumin followed by chopped ginger and garlic. Lightly brown the garlic and add chopped chilli and onions. Saute the onions for a minute and then add turmeric and chilli powder. Give a quick stir and then add tomatoes. Cook tomatoes till they are some what mashy. Add the boiled dal at this stage, add some water to get the right pouring thick consistency. Check for seasoning and add chopped coriander leaves. |

Portion out the dal in a bowl and in a tempering pan or a laddle heat some ghee and add a pinch of chilli powder, immediately add it over the dal. You can additional garnish it with some ginger juliennes. |
